Engineering and HPLC Analytics of yeast strains for protein production

That’s the project
The yeast Pichia pastoris is an important host for the production of recombinant secreted proteins of biopharmaceutical interest. In the present project, different approaches to improve productivity by genetic engineering will be pursued.

- HPLC analytics for the quantifications of proteins
- Analytical methods for the quantification of proteins
- State-of-the art molecular biology and cloning
- Cultivation of microorganisms in small scale and bioreactors
- Detailed protocolling of the experimental work
- Contribution to general lab organisation

That’s important to us
In the best way you have completed a Bachelor or Master degree (or equivalent) in biotechnology, biochemistry, applied microbiology or a similar study. Research experiences in the following areas would be desirable:
- Practical experience in analytical methods, in particular HPLC analyses required
- Practical experience in molecular biology techniques and cultivation of microbial strains desired
- Interest in bioreactor cultivations desired
- An organized approach with strong attention to detail and good communication skills in German and/or English with ability to work well in teams.

Research will take place in the Institute of Microbiology & Microbial Biotechnology at the Department of Biotechnology of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU). https://boku.ac.at/dbt/immb/research-groups/
- The annual gross salary is set between EUR 29,400 and EUR 43,400 depending on your qualification
- This corresponds to a monthly net amount of between EUR 1,580 and EUR 2,120 (paid 14 times a year).
- Start: as soon as possible (Oct/Nov 2022) - duration for 18 months
