PostDoc position
Fatty acid ester synthesis made fit for industry
in Graz / Austria
The Nidetzky-group at acib
We are specialists in carbohydrate-active enzymes and their application in biocatalytic syntheses. Our team of around 30 people is located at Graz Technical University. Within acib we push enzymes towards industrial application together with our industrial partners.
The project
The advertised research project focuses on process intensification for carbohydrate fatty acid ester synthesis. The challenge is to define in a complex reaction system with several influence parameters a set-up that finally leads to high product titers. Literature research in a broad body of relevant studies will form the basis for hands-on process optimization in the lab (up to gram scale of products). Identification of new suitable enzymes, enzyme optimization and optimization of application form (immobilization) will be part of the project.
Your profile
- You have a strong background and a University degree, in biotechnology or chemistry or related disciplines.
- You have practical experience with enzymes, ideally with lipases and esterases, including enzymatic assays, HPLC analysis, ideally also with immobilization, conversion experiments in organic solvents, water content determination, product isolation. Experience in enzyme expression, cloning techniques, enzyme screening, NMR analysis is a plus.
